Chapter – 04
You Insist on Asking for It When I Ignore You
Two hours later.
The clouds had parted and the rain had ceased.
Zhang Yang’s vital energy had fully recovered and had even grown somewhat stronger, but he was still far from breaking through to the second level of Qi Refining.
“Ordinary women, even if they are virgins, are far less beneficial to cultivation than women with spiritual roots.”
Unfortunately, spiritual roots were one in a millionânot so easy to come across.
Liu Piaoxu lay on the bed, fast asleep. For a woman experiencing it for the first time, such a prolonged session was truly too much for her.
Zhang Yang turned down the air conditioning, slipped under the covers, and pulled Liu Piaoxu into his arms.
“Zhang Yang, I love you.”
Liu Piaoxu murmured drowsily, snuggling against him as she continued to sleep. She was simply too exhausted.
The next morning, it was still raining.
Liu Piaoxu woke up early and felt unusually energizedânothing at all like she had slept poorly.
Zhang Yang hadn’t lied to her after all; being with him really was good for her health.
Moreover, she no longer felt any pain.
Zhang Yang felt something heavy pressing down on him, making it hard to breathe. He groggily opened his eyes.
“Are you trying to crush me to death?” Zhang Yang laughed.
Liu Piaoxu was so embarrassed she wished she could disappear. She moved off him. “Ugh, I’m not talking to you anymore.”
“My vital energy is fully restored. Lie on your stomachâI’ll treat your lumbar spine.”
Liu Piaoxu quickly lay face down so he couldn’t see her flushed face.
Zhang Yang pressed his hands down and channeled his vital energy into her.
Soon, Liu Piaoxu let out a comfortable moan. The sensation of warmth flowing into her body was absolutely wonderfulâeven more soothing than a hot spring.
“Zhang Yang.”
“Yes?”
“Do you men… do you not like them too big?”
Liu Piaoxu buried her face in the blanket, her voice barely above a whisper. If not for Zhang Yang’s exceptionally sharp hearing, he wouldn’t have been able to make out a word.
“Kids like ping-pong balls. Men like playing basketball.”
“I’m not nearly as terrifying as a basketball.”
Liu Piaoxu smacked him playfully.
Zhang Yang leaned over her, savoring the blissful moment.
Who would have thought that a beautiful female Ph.D., the youngest deputy director in Jiangnan City, would be won over after just a few meetings?
As long as a man was strong enough and handsome enough, there would be no shortage of women throwing themselves at him.
âŠ
The rain fell all through the night.
The weather bureau issued a red rainstorm warning, granting a day off.
The two spent the whole morning tangled up together. Just after lunch, Liu Piaoxu hurried to return to the hospital.
Zhang Yang drove her there. As they neared the hospital, Liu Piaoxu made him get out of the car.
“Sister Xu, you’re discarding me way too fast!” Zhang Yang said, half laughing and half exasperated.
Liu Piaoxu thought back to his performance the night beforeâhe really was like a donkey, not just in physique but in stamina too.
“If someone sees us, how am I supposed to explain it? Am I supposed to tell them that I slept with you after just a few meetings?”
Liu Piaoxu never dreamed that the body she had preserved for twenty-eight years would be taken by a younger man she’d known only a few days.
“Fate is a strange thingâhard to explain. Drive carefully.”
After giving her some final words of advice, Zhang Yang opened the door and got out, walking the rest of the way.
Back at the department, Liu Piaoxu first checked on the ward conditions and then asked about the patients’ status.
As a doctor, her mind was always on her patients.
After finishing her rounds, she returned to her office and leaned back in her chair, lost in thought.
Before long, she couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh.
She recalled the wonderful moments of the previous night and found that she felt not a single regret.
In fact, she felt incredibly fortunate.
With a man as outstanding as Zhang Yang, if she had hesitated even a moment, she wouldn’t have been his first woman.
*Ding-dong!*
The office door was knocked on, and Ye Zhiyang’s voice came from outside.
“Sister Liu, even on a rainy day you’re thinking about the departmentâyou’re setting a great example for all of us.”
As soon as he entered, Ye Zhiyang plastered on a flattering smile.
“What do you want?” Liu Piaoxu asked coldly.
“I wanted to ask about your views on the department’s staff confirmations.”
Zhang Yang certainly wouldn’t be staying, and the department was short-staffed. Even if Ye Zhiyang was mediocre, she’d have no choice but to keep him.
“Zhang Yang will be leaving soon. His workload will be handed over to you.”
“Thank you, Sister Liu! I knew you’d never choose someone as unethical as Zhang Yang.”
Ye Zhiyang was so moved he almost wept with joy, nearly dropping to his knees to swear loyalty.
Liu Piaoxu’s face darkened. “If I ever hear you say one more bad word about Zhang Yang, get out of here immediately.”
Ye Zhiyang was stunned. What was going on?
Zhang Yang was about to leaveâwhy was Director Liu defending him? Wasn’t she utterly disgusted with him?
“Sister Liu, I’ll never speak ill of Zhang Yang again,” Ye Zhiyang quickly replied.
“Get out.”
Ye Zhiyang slunk away dejectedly.
Liu Piaoxu watched his retreating back with disgust, thinking that if the department weren’t so understaffed, she’d have kicked him out on the spot.
A man who could make her soar for hoursâhow dare someone like him speak ill of him?
No sooner had Ye Zhiyang left than Zhang Yang arrived at the department.
“Why are you just getting here now?”
It was only a twenty-minute walk. If Zhang Yang was this late, he must have been doing something else.
“Ran into a few thugs, beat them up, and interrogated them.”
“Who did you offend?”
“Xia Wei.”
Zhang Yang told her the story of forcing Xia Wei to return the hundred thousand yuan he’d lent her.
“Will that cause any problems?”
“Just a bunch of punksâI can take ten of them.” Zhang Yang dismissed it entirely, instead asking about Ye Zhiyang. “What did he come to you for?”
“What else? Badmouthing you, of course.” Liu Piaoxu smiled faintly. “Ye Zhiyang keeps talking behind your back. Can you tolerate that?”
“He’s several levels below me. Dealing with him would be a waste of effort.”
He was already leaving. If Ye Zhiyang left too, it would only add to Liu Piaoxu’s burden as the superior.
“Such a broad-minded man.”
“Not just broad-mindedâI’m broad in many ways.”
“Get out!”
Liu Piaoxu laughed and scolded him, handing over the signed resignation letter.
Zhang Yang could see in her eyes a deep reluctance and a trace of unease.
He walked over, tilted her chin up, and kissed her. “I love basketball the most, so you’re irreplaceable.”
“Bad guy.”
Liu Piaoxu bit him lightly on the shoulder, her heart brimming with sweetness.
Back at his seat, Zhang Yang began packing his things.
A figure sidled up to him, gloating: “Tsk tsk, got fired? How pitiful!”
It was his rival, Ye Zhiyang.
*Are you out of your mind?*
Zhang Yang looked at him like he was an idiot.
He’d ignored him, let him off, and yet the guy was stepping all over him now?
In his eyes, was Zhang Yang really that easy to push around?
“In the workplace, being a hardworking ox doesn’t guarantee promotion. Someone of your humble background could never understand the ways of high society. Resigning voluntarily is betterâat least you keep some dignity. Better than being fired.”
Ye Zhiyang burst out laughing, his pent-up frustration finally released.
*You reap what you sow.*
Zhang Yang grabbed him by the collar and dragged him like a dog toward Liu Piaoxu’s office.
