Chapter 01
Crossing the Primeval Forest**
Towering trees blotted out the sky, with only a few stubborn rays of sunlight managing to pierce through the dense canopy, scattering patches of light across the forest floor.
A fair-skinned, pretty young girl leaned weakly against a tree and let out a helpless sigh.
“Where on earth is this place? Even if this is some kind of prank, you’ve taken it way too far!”
The only response was the rustling of leaves stirred by the gentle breeze.
Looking at her phone, which had no signal and was nearly out of battery, Su Yuzhi felt like crying.
She had already been wandering around for a full two hours, yet she hadn’t found a single one of her companions. She couldn’t even find a trace of the tent where she had slept the night before.
If only I hadn’t joined this graduation trip, she thought bitterly. Then I wouldn’t have gotten lost in this primitive forest or woken up to find everyone gone after such a ridiculous prank.
It all started three hours earlier.
After finishing the college entrance examination, a group of high school graduates eager to enjoy their freedom organized a graduation trip. The first stop on the itinerary was a two-day camping trip in the forests of Yun Province.
Su Yuzhi was a homebody and hadn’t planned to go, but her best friend, Lin Fu, kept persuading her. Thinking that they wouldn’t have many chances to see their classmates again after graduation, she decided to join the trip for the sake of their friendship.
The previous night, everyone had been busy pitching tents and having a barbecue. Although she had a great time, she was exhausted. Instead of joining the late-night chatting, she quickly tidied up and crawled into her tent, falling asleep almost immediately.
When she woke up, the tent they had pitched the night before was gone. So were all the classmates who had come on the trip. The only thing left beside her was her small white backpack, which contained two sets of spare clothes, a power bank, a charging cable, a lighter, and a few miscellaneous daily necessities.
When she first opened her eyes and saw the thick canopy overhead, she thought she was still half asleep and hallucinating. Reaching out to grab her phone to check the time, she ended up clutching a handful of grass instead.
The strange sensation jolted Su Yuzhi awake. She sat up abruptly, completely alert.
Only then did she take a good look at her surroundings and realize that she was lying directly on the ground.
Utterly confused, she assumed it was just a prank. She figured her classmates had changed the campsite without waking her.
She turned on her phone and saw that it was nine o’clock in the morning. She tried sending a message to her best friend, Lin Fu, to ask what was going on, but her phone had no signal at all. After spinning endlessly, the message ended with nothing but an infuriating red exclamation mark.
She stood up, slung her backpack over her shoulders, and decided to stay where she was, waiting for Lin Fu to come back and end this ridiculous joke.
Instead, she spotted a gigantic white snake hanging from a tree just two meters away. It was over ten meters long, and its body was thicker than her waist.
There was no time to pity the thin branch struggling under the enormous snake’s weight. Goosebumps covered her entire body, and a chill ran down the back of her neck, as though some deadly predator had fixed its gaze upon her.
Fortunately, the snake remained perfectly still, coiled around the tree as though asleep.
Keeping her body as stiff as a board, Su Yuzhi slowly shuffled backward.
Only after she was certain the enormous white snake was out of sight did she turn around and sprint away as fast as she could.
This was no joke! That thing could swallow four of her in a single bite!
After running for several minutes, she finally stopped, leaning against a tree as she gasped for breath.
Why am I so unlucky?
She was on the verge of tears.
Deep down, she had already begun to sense that something was terribly wrong.
For one thing, they had only camped beside a road near the forest. The surrounding trees had been no more than three meters tall, and there had been a large resort less than two hundred meters away.
But here, every tree towered over ten meters high, and there wasn’t even a glimpse of the resort’s landmark buildings.
That resort had been filled with enormous cartoon statues that could be seen from hundreds of meters away. Just the night before, she and Lin Fu had even competed to see who could recognize more characters, with Su Yuzhi narrowly winning.
So this definitely wasn’t where she had been last night.
Trying to cheer herself up despite the situation, Su Yuzhi couldn’t help but think:
Don’t tell me… I’ve actually transmigrated?
