Chapter – 03
I Was Kicked Out of the Royal Palace
One month passed in the blink of an eye.
In between my regular duties, I had to prepare handover documents, make the rounds to greet the people taking over my responsibilities, and since the departure procedures also took time, I had to rush those through as well. Then, when I got home, there was packing and studying Eldian medicine.
There was absolutely not enough time!
The excitement about going on a date only lasted at the very beginning. Well, it was nice to finally relax together for the first time in a while. And besidesâ
I gently touched my earring. The silver and sapphire were beautiful. Just like him.
“It’s enchanted with a protective spell. Think of it as me and wear it every day. I’d really like to give you a ring, but that would get in the way of your work, right?”
After that, I felt as if a weight had been lifted from my chest. I’m so simple.
Feeling happy, I found myself humming a tune as I wove magic circles.
Physical recovery. Mental fatigue reduction. Motion sickness relief. Since it was going to be a long journey, I cast recovery spells on the carriages.
Of course, I had obtained permission in advance. They allowed it as long as it didn’t interfere with the defensive magic already on the carriages.
As if I’d do something that incompetent!
Alright, all done.
“Thank you very much. It must be quite a task to cast spells on this many vehicles.”
“No, casting on objects is much easier than on the human body, so it’s no trouble at all.”
“I see. Impressive, as expected.”
“Thank you. Since that’s all of them, could you please inspect them?”
“Certainly. Ah, yes, this is good. The spells are beautifully applied, and the original defensive magic is intact as well.”
It was embarrassing that they heard me humming, but being praised didn’t feel bad.
“Do you not usually cast recovery spells?”
“Indeed, we’ve always been more concerned with the defensive aspects.”
“Well, I highly recommend recovery magic. If you find it to your liking during this journey, please feel free to request it again.”
I ended up pitching it without thinking. But it really is convenient. Especially recommended for women who lack physical stamina.
I was allowed to ride in the same carriage as the ladies-in-waiting.
Since I had the chance, I decided to check on their health too.
I didn’t know any of them, so I hoped I could get along with them at least a little.
As it turned out, the recovery magic was very well received. The long carriage ride had apparently been quite painful for them.
Since Cecilio was staying close to the Princess as a guard, I didn’t get to see him much. I was really glad to have more people to talk to. Thanks to them, the journey ended up being fairly enjoyable.
But that was where the fun ended.
—
“What do you mean I’m to be moved separately?”
“You have nothing to do with Lady Claudia’s marriage. I heard that Lord Cruz declined to have you accompany him as his companion?”
A man who seemed to be an Eldian official, without a hint of a friendly smile, gave me arrogant instructions.
“If you’re here merely as a medical mage for training, we cannot permit you to stay within the royal palace.
I will now escort you to the dormitory. Please follow him.”
Certainly, when put that way, I suppose I had no choice but to comply.
“Um, what about Lord Cruzâ”
“He is a guard knight, is he not? Are you going to interfere with his duties?”
“…No, I apologize.”
Why were they so hostile toward me?
I never expected to be kicked out the moment I arrived at the Eldian royal palace. That insidious official! I wanted to cast a spell to kill his hair follicles!
While cursing him in my mind, I outwardly obeyed obediently. Starting a fight here wouldn’t solve anything. But I was even more shocked when I saw where I was being taken.
“…Um, is this really the place?”
“Is there a problem?”
“According to the earlier explanation, this is the men’s dormitory, isn’t it? Do you really think there’s no problem with this?”
“There’s no helping it. Our country has no female medical mages whatsoever. You came here knowing that, didn’t you?”
Director, this is terrible! It’s not just that there are few womenâthere are literally zero!
“It seems there’s been a miscommunication. However, I cannot stay overnight in a men’s dormitory.
If any trouble arises here, wouldn’t you also be held responsible for recommending this arrangement? If you’re fine with that, then by all means, leave me here.”
Now then, what will you do? We glared at each other in silence.
I heard a click of his tongue.
“Then just go back to your country. We’ve got nothing to teach a woman who’s just here for a cushy job!”
Kill his hair follicles, and what else should I cast? Maybe impotence.
Can I do it now? I can, right?
“What’s with that ugly face? You’re pretty arrogant for a woman. Ah, I see, that’s why no one would marry you, so you’re trying to work here, huh?”
His smug, grinning face was infuriating. Why did I have to be spoken to like this by someone I’d just met?
“…For a man, you sure do squawk a lot.”
“Huh?”
“Chirping and tweetingâare you the woman here? How pathetic.”
I’m sorry, but I have a short temper. While glaring at the man in front of me, I cast a spell on myself. Stacking strength enhancement.
As expected, the man swung at me.
With a swing that big, no way I’d let it hit me. But I let it graze me just a little. Otherwise, it wouldn’t count as self-defense.
The shoulder he hit tingled with pain. He was serious about that!
I drove my fist straight into his gut. Ugh, my hand hurts! But I wasn’t doneâI kicked him in a vital spot. Well, it probably won’t make him impotent.
Even I have to deal with drunks and brawlers at the healing clinic sometimes. Being prim and proper alone wouldn’t get me by.
“What are you two doing!?”
People gathered, drawn by the commotion.
“He swung at me, so I dealt with him.”
I should have a bruise on my shoulder. Clear evidence.
It’s a good thing the protective spell on the earring Cecilio gave me didn’t activate.
But maybe I went too far. Because of all that stacked strength enhancement, my joints ache. I’ll definitely be sore tomorrow.
