Chapter – 01

Reincarnated as a Silly Girl

It felt as if a hole had been smashed into her skull, the pain excruciating. The metallic taste of blood lingered in her mouth. Before Ye Xiaohua could even process what was happening, she felt someone slapping her face vigorously.

Fighting through the dizziness, her hot-tempered nature took over. She swung her fist blindly and connected with a solid punch, accompanied by a man’s pained yelp. Ye Xiaohua slowly opened her eyes.

Before her crouched a tall man, one hand clamped over his eye where she’d hit him, hissing through gritted teeth. Behind him stood a heavily-built old woman with a face full of mean flesh, cursing and spitting venomously as her mouth flapped nonstop. The woman being berated cowered against the wall in silence.

Along with the splitting headache, a flood of unfamiliar memories surged into her mind. Ye Xiaohua realized she was facing a very serious problem.

She seemed to have transmigrated, into the body of a simple-minded country girl from the Great Zhou Dynasty…

“Damn it, how dare you hit me! I’ll beat you to death, you stinking idiot, biting me like that.”

The man sucked in air between his threats, then Ye Xiaohua saw him pull back his fist, winding up for a punch aimed at her. On his hand was a ring of bloody teeth marks, so deep the bone was visible—bitten by the original owner before she died.

“Don’t hit my sister!” The voice came from a tiny child barely taller than the low wall. Drawing from memory, Ye Xiaohua knew this was her younger brother.

She saw the little one launch himself forward, throwing his entire body weight against the man’s arm with all his might, shouting at her, “Sister, run!”

The man, annoyed by the child’s interference, grabbed him like a chick. Ye Xiaodou’s flailing legs looked even more pitifully thin against the man’s thick, muscular arm.

“If I don’t hit her, I’ll hit you then.” The man rubbed his swollen left eye, the pain making him even more agitated.

Just as the man was about to rain down fists on the four-year-old child, Ye Xiaohua sprang up from the ground like a fish leaping. Though this body was only ten years old, with her skills from her past life, one kick was more than enough for him.

She put every ounce of strength she had into that kick. The man crumpled, clutching his groin and writhing on the ground in agony. In the instant he released his grip, she caught the little one steadily in her arms.

The child, his face a mess of snot and tears, trembled uncontrollably in her embrace. He sobbed, “Sister, are you okay?”

No, she wasn’t okay. Every inch of her body screamed in pain—head throbbing, chest tight, the world spinning around her, on the verge of fainting at any moment. But faced with her brother’s concern, Ye Xiaohua still shook her head.

The ever-chattering Old Lady Ye, upon hearing her grandson’s screams and seeing where he was clutching, let out a horrified shriek and rushed over. The woman cowering against the wall turned deathly pale, knowing this was serious.

Terrified that her mother-in-law’s wrath would fall on her, Li Shi was quick to speak up.

“You worthless girl, how dare you fight back and hit your cousin!” She turned to Old Lady Ye with fawning obsequiousness, eager to distance herself. “Mother, I didn’t teach her this. She’s an idiot who doesn’t know anything—I’ll punish her for you.”

Ye Xiaohua held her trembling brother and glanced at the woman who had been cursed at without a peep moments ago, yet now stood before her hurling accusations at the top of her lungs. Ironic as it was, yes—this was her mother.

Old Lady Ye was still fussing over her precious eldest grandson’s condition, but hearing Li Shi speak up, she didn’t stop her.

Li Shi turned to the siblings, her face twisted with rage, fiercer than a demon. “Still glaring at me, you dead girl? Always causing me trouble! Your big brother was taking your little brother to be raised by a wealthy family—what were you blocking it for?”

Old Lady Ye interjected coldly, “Why are you wasting words on an idiot? Looks like she’s gotten too comfortable and needs a beating. I don’t know how you’ve raised your children—if anything happens to my grandson, you three women can get the hell out of the Ye family! You killed my son, and now you want to harm my grandson too—a bunch of cursed women.”

Li Shi dared not talk back. Without a second’s hesitation, she raised her arm and swung her hand down hard. But before it could land anywhere near, her wrist was caught by Ye Xiaohua.

Li Shi struggled, but her arm neither fell nor pulled free. She glared angrily at Ye Xiaohua, only to be startled by her ferocious gaze—like she wanted to devour someone alive.

Now drenched in blood, Ye Xiaohua looked as sinister as a vengeful ghost. Remembering the bite she’d given Ye Teng earlier, Li Shi’s skin crawled. The words “let go” died in her throat.

Ye Xiaohua glared at this cheap mother and shoved her arm away roughly.

What nonsense about being raised by a wealthy family? Even the original owner, slow as she was, knew they were trying to sell her brother. As for what he’d be sold into—Ye Xiaohua figured it was to buy their cousin a wife.

Li Shi knew this full well, yet she’d agreed anyway. The original owner, who shared a deep bond with her brother, had fought desperately to protect him from being taken away. In her panic, she’d bitten their cousin—and been beaten to death for it.

“Li Shi, can’t bring yourself to hit her? Keeping these cursed creatures around only brings trouble. Beating her to death would save us the headache.” Old Lady Ye helped Ye Teng up from the ground, then rolled up her sleeves and strode toward them, ready to take matters into her own hands.

“Mother, I’ll hit her, I’ll hit her right now! Please don’t be angry—is Teng’er alright?”

Ye Xiaohua watched her cheap mother stand there, all fawning and groveling, and felt a surge of rage. Her own daughter beaten to death without a word, yet she was worried about someone else. Anyone would think Ye Teng was her real child.

“Nonsense! Of course he’s not alright! Are you blind? Can’t you see for yourself? Look how much pain he’s in!” Old Lady Ye had never had a kind word for her second daughter-in-law, always speaking as if she’d swallowed gunpowder. “I refuse to believe no one can handle this girl!”

As it turned out, she really couldn’t handle Ye Xiaohua.

Ye Xiaohua spun around and grabbed her wood-chopping knife, shouting furiously, “Anyone who tries to take Xiaodou away will have to answer to me!”

Old Lady Ye, who’d just been so full of bravado, froze in her tracks at the sight of the gleaming, sharpened blade. She didn’t dare take another step.

“Wha—what are you doing?”

Wasn’t it obvious? She was about to kill someone.

When Ye Xiaohua started swinging the knife wildly, the cowardly Old Lady Ye’s voice trembled. “Li—Li Shi! Your little beast—aren’t you going to control her?”

Li Shi was so scared she wished she could slip away unnoticed. Yes, she’d given birth to her, but she truly had no control over her. This daughter was simple-minded; when she went berserk, she wouldn’t even recognize her own mother.

But with her mother-in-law giving orders, she had no choice but to steel herself and step forward. She didn’t dare use force, so instead she coaxed softly, “Hua’er, listen to Mother. Put the knife down.”

A flash of her brother holding her, crying that he didn’t want to be separated from her, pierced Ye Xiaohua’s mind. A wave of sorrow washed over her. She knew her strength was at its limit—if she didn’t drive these ill-intentioned people away now, she wouldn’t be able to protect her brother.

The original owner hadn’t understood what a catamite was, but Ye Xiaohua did. If that little one got sold, his life would be ruined.

With that thought, she didn’t retreat—she advanced toward the two women, forcing them to stumble backward, terrified of being cut by her blade.

“Get out! Get out of my house!” Ye Xiaohua’s voice was utterly cold.

Old Lady Ye, seeing the knife inches away, was terrified the mad girl might accidentally slice her—it wasn’t worth getting cut over.

Knowing reasoning was useless with an idiot, but unwilling to lose face in front of her daughter-in-law by admitting she was scared, she said, “That dead girl injured Teng’er so badly—I need to take him to see a doctor.”

Before leaving, Ye Teng still managed to spit out a threat, “You stinking idiot, I’ll kill you for this—hiss…”

Watching the grandmother and grandson leave, Ye Xiaohua gripped Ye Xiaodou’s hand tightly—then her eyes rolled back and she collapsed into unconsciousness.

The first thing Ye Xiaohua did upon waking was check if Xiaodou was still there. She’d chased off those two, but there was still her cowardly cheap mother at home. What if she’d given the little one away?

Fortunately, the little guy was sound asleep beside her, his emaciated body curled into a tight ball, dried tears still clinging to his closed eyes.

She wasn’t in much better shape herself. Just looking at her hands—dry, rough, crisscrossed with scars, some wounds still unhealed, not a patch of decent skin to be found. Because the original owner wasn’t all there and was a girl to boot, she’d been neglected since childhood—doing all the hardest work, taking beatings as a matter of course. In the Ye household, no one treated her like a human being—except for this brother.

Recalling how the little one had thrown himself in front of her before, a warmth spread through her heart. In her past life, she’d grown up in an orphanage and never known the warmth of family. In this life, though her father didn’t care and her mother didn’t love her, she had a brother who genuinely cherished her. Ye Xiaohua stroked Xiaodou’s head—she wasn’t losing out.

Xiaodou blinked awake groggily, and when he saw it was Ye Xiaohua, he threw himself into her arms with a loud wail, sobbing incoherently, “Sis… Mom… Mom doesn’t want us anymore.”

Doesn’t want them?

She’d been awake for a while and hadn’t seen any sign of that cheap mother. There was no sound from outside either. Though the original had been simple, this brother was remarkably sharp. What he meant couldn’t possibly be…

Had that cheap mother run away?
