Chapter – 06

“Only Me…”

After that, Aira didn’t do anything else to me, and we made it safely to lunchtime.

As expected—or perhaps I should say, as predicted—I couldn’t keep up with the lessons at all.

I mean, I went eight years without studying. That’s only natural, but that doesn’t mean “I can’t do it” is an acceptable excuse.

…Well, thanks to that mysterious “otherworld transfer bonus” language comprehension, English was somewhat manageable. That was my only saving grace.

At least when it comes to English, my grades might actually be better than before I was summoned.

…Even taking that into account, the negatives far outweigh the positives, though.

…No, if I think about the future, I can practically speak dozens of languages, so maybe that’s an advantage?

Thinking about that, I walked alone toward the rooftop with the lunchbox my sister had prepared for me.

Usually, I eat lunch with Hayato and Honoka, the three of us, but today Hayato isn’t here.

…The two of them didn’t seem to mind at all, but even at the best of times, I already felt a sense of guilt—or maybe just awkwardness—eating with a couple. There’s no way I could eat lunch alone with my friend’s girlfriend, even if she is a friend.

Well, either way, even if Hayato had been at school today, I was planning to eat alone—no, with Aira—so it wasn’t an issue at all.

“Aira, open it for me.”

When I reached the rooftop door, I confirmed no one was nearby and muttered quietly.

The rooftop door is locked, so normally you can’t go up there, but I’ve got a super-skilled assassin daughter at home. Opening a locked door is easy for her.

“Okay.”

With that one word from Aira, the door opened.

Good. No one comes here, so Aira can relax and take it easy.

I don’t think it’s likely, but even if someone did show up, Aira could hide the moment the door opened.

“We’ll have to split it in half, but want to eat?”

“Yeah. Thank you, Hiroto.”

Splitting a single portion in half means quite a bit less, but Aira, who had revealed herself, nodded without complaint.

…Well, I had intended to leave her in that other world, and she followed me here on her own, so it’s only natural she wouldn’t complain about that sort of thing. …Let’s just chalk it up to my good parenting.

“But before we eat, there’s something I want to ask.”

“Hmm? What?”

“…That girl. Who is she?”

That girl…?

“Honoka? If that’s who you mean, I already said—or rather, wrote—she’s a friend. …More importantly, what was up with you suddenly grabbing my hands earlier? …At least you let go when class started, so that was fine.”

“………………I thought it was unfair.”

Unfair…? What is?

As if answering my internal question, Aira spoke.

“I want Hiroto to touch me too, and I want to touch him. …I don’t want anyone but me touching you. I want you to be my Hiroto.”

Then, as if pressing the attack, she said that.

“Gah, w-wait wait, wh-what’s wrong? L-let’s just calm down, okay?”

…Honestly, my head still hasn’t caught up, but Aira said she loves me.

So, simply put, she was jealous of Honoka. …But if that were the case, it’d be strange if she didn’t act like this back in the other world too, so I decided to try to get Aira to calm down first.

Back in the other world, as a form of physical affection, I’d been touched by girls more than Honoka has… but Aira’s reaction then was always normal, as far as I recall.

“I am calm.”

“Th-then, what’s with this all of a sudden?”

“…My feelings haven’t changed at all since we were over there. …If I had to say what’s changed since coming here, it’s that I no longer have to give up on you. So the feelings I’d been holding back are spilling out.”

…So, that means, ever since we were over there, every time I got along with a girl, she was actually jealous but hiding it well?

“Hiroto, I love you. …Love only me.”

She clung to me, looking up with those eyes, and said that.

“Gah, as a daughter, I do love you. …M-more importantly, the bento will get cold. L-let’s just eat.”

Even though “getting cold” doesn’t really apply to a lunchbox, I said that and gently pulled her away.

“…………Okay. For now, I’ll accept that.”

Again, I pretended not to hear Aira’s last words and started opening the lunchbox my sister had made.

At just sixteen, Hiroto was suddenly summoned to another world. He spent eight long years fighting, struggling, and surviving—until he finally made it back home. Naturally, he was anxious about how people would treat him after so long. But to his relief, his body had returned to the same sixteen-year-old state it was in when he’d first disappeared. His parents were gone. The only family he had left was his older sister—and it was for her sake that he made returning home his one and only goal. That determination fueled his journey through the other world, and finally setting foot back in his own world filled him with a wave of relief.
But along with that relief came a heavy, lingering emptiness. Little did Hiroto know, that emptiness wouldn’t last long. Just minutes after his return, the girl he’d practically raised like a daughter suddenly showed up in his world, too. And she had no intention of leaving him behind.
