Chapter 02
Tall, muscular, handsome, and intimidating.
It was no exaggeration to use these eight words to describe him.
Enhanced by his military uniform and coupled with his height of over 1.8 meters, he exuded a powerful sense of oppression. Particularly beneath the thin fabric, his taut muscles bulged, creating a highly impactful visual impression. He sported a cleanly cropped buzz cut, a face with resolute lines, and cold, sharp eyes. Beneath his straight nose, his thin lips were tightly pursed, giving him a stern, imposing air. Especially when he slightly knit his brows, he looked incredibly menacing!
An indescribable scene involuntarily flashed through Yun Shu’s mind, along with the terrifying first-time experience that had left her trembling. These were undoubtedly the emotional reactions of the original owner. Yun Shu adjusted her breathing and quickly recovered her composure. Food and sex are human nature. As someone who enjoyed reading spicy web novels, the male lead was undoubtedly a piece of delicious, enticing food dangled right in front of her. She wasn’t inexperienced in dating, but she had never been with a red-blooded, hardened soldier like the male lead.
Bo Zhan stood just inside the doorway without taking another step forward. His deep gaze fell upon the bandage still wrapped around Yun Shu’s head, and his heart grew a few degrees colder.
“Resorting to self-harm just to divorce me is a bit too extreme. If you truly like that man, I will fulfill your wish. There’s no need to make it a matter of life and death.”
“…” Yun Shu knit her delicate brows slightly. She could tell Bo Zhan knew that the original owner had courted death just to be with the fair-faced Duan Jianguo.
Seeing that she remained silent, Bo Zhan continued in a deep voice, “I have already submitted the divorce application, and the letter of introduction is ready. We can go to the local department to handle the procedures in a moment.”
This man certainly moved fast. No, it was because the original owner had pushed things way too far this time. Hearing this, Yun Shu frowned even harder.
She looked at the tall man before her and spoke slowly, “Can you listen to me for a couple of sentences first? I just hit my head and don’t have much strength. Walk a bit closer so I can talk to you.”
Her voice was naturally soft, especially when she lowered her tone, making it sound like she was acting spoiled. Hearing this, Bo Zhan knit his brows, a mix of surprise and scrutiny flashing through his eyes.
Yun Shu detested him. She hated him so much that breathing the same air in the same room made her feel nauseous. The only intimate time they had shared was on their wedding night, when she had actively thrown herself into his arms, and they had impulsively set off like dry firewood meeting a roaring flame. That was why Bo Zhan had stayed right by the entrance upon stepping inside, not moving a single step closer. Whenever Yun Shu spoke to him, it was always with a haughty, dictatorial tone; she had never been this gentle.
Something was wrong with Yun Shu. This was completely unlike her. Or perhaps she was deliberately playing games with him, testing the limits of his forbearance.
Once, simply because he accidentally touched her bedsheet, she had thrown a massive tantrum. Not only did she shred the sheet to pieces, but she ended up burning it to ashes and pointing at his nose in front of others, calling him as filthy as an ant. Considering her status as a capitalist’s eldest daughter who had been pampered since childhood, he figured it was fine if she was a bit spoiled. Little did he expect that she wasn’t just spoiled; she was utterly unreasonable.
Thinking up to this point, Bo Zhan no longer wanted to waste words with her. It seemed all of his patience had been entirely exhausted.
“If you have anything to say, bring it up when we process the paperwork later. If I can accommodate it, I will absolutely satisfy your requests. My only condition is that the child is innocent; you don’t need to involve the child.”
Without waiting for Yun Shu to speak, Bo Zhan turned around to walk out.
Yun Shu, “…”
Was this man’s heart completely dead, or was he intentionally acting arrogant with her right now? Processing the paperwork was out of the question. She wasn’t foolish like the original owner, who had blindly given away the male lead.
Thus, the moment Bo Zhan turned around, Yun Shu pretended to get out of bed and deliberately pulled down the desk lamp from the nightstand. The lamp crashed to the floor with a loud and sharp snap.
Bo Zhan’s departing footsteps abruptly halted. When he turned back around, Yun Shu was already lying on the floor.
A flash of anxiety crossed his eyes, and he rushed over at lightning speed. He swept her up in his arms and placed her back onto the bed. Though his movements were gentle, his expression was terrifying.
Bo Zhan stared at Yun Shu, anger visibly rising in his eyes. “Are you only going to be satisfied once you’ve miscarried the child?!”
This kind of intense aura was something an ordinary person truly couldn’t withstand.
Yun Shu pursed her lips, and her eyes instantly welled with tears. She was inherently beautiful to begin with. With an oval face, exquisite features, and a small dark mole between her brows, she looked exceptionally charming and moving. Adding to the fact that the original owner possessed the kind of fair skin that never tanned no matter how much sun she got, the sight of her reddened eyes was something no man could resist.
She tried to push Bo Zhan away, but she couldn’t budge him at all. No matter, this didn’t hinder her from continuing her dramatic performance. Pointing right at Bo Zhan’s nose, she let out a torrent of tears and words.
“Youâyou barbarian! If you hadn’t been in such a rush to leave, would I have scrambled out of bed to chase you? Do you think the child in my belly belongs to you alone? He is my child too! Let me tell you, Bo Zhan, if anything happens to this child, I’ll never let you hear the end of it!”
Accused so fiercely, Bo Zhan froze on the spot, his face shifting between dark and pale. “You…”
How had the person in the wrong suddenly become him? Wasn’t she the one who had brought this on herself?!
Yun Shu didn’t care what he thought. The act had to be thoroughly played out, so she delivered a barrage of complaints without holding back.
“You leave whenever you want. Do you think my place is some sort of inn?!”
“And who said I wanted to be with that fair-faced director? I merely appreciated his opera performances! You’re fabricating charges against me and slandering me. Let me tell you, if I report this to the police, you’d be guilty of defamation and false accusations!”
Bo Zhan’s brows knitted tightly. “…”
Yun Shu glared at him. “Watching me cry and you don’t even think to fetch me a tissue. You don’t know how to cherish your wife at all!”
“…” Bo Zhan clenched his jaw tight.
This woman was so damn unreasonable.
Handing her a tissue, he questioned her in a deep, stern voice, “That wasn’t what you said in your letter.”
Yun Shu, “…”
A letter. The original owner had actually written a letter to the male lead. What did she write?
Looking at Bo Zhan’s questioning gaze, Yun Shu could more or less guess the contents. To force the male lead into a divorce, she must have written quite a lot of deep, affectionate declarations regarding that fair-faced director.
Yun Shu took the tissue, blew her nose loudly, and with a quick spin of her thoughts, immediately came up with an explanation.
“Don’t you know in your heart why I wrote it that way? It’s all because you never stay by my side.”
“Look at Xiao Yue next door. When she got pregnant, her husband stayed by her side with the utmost care. What about you? Ever since I got pregnant, you just patted your butt and left. Have you ever genuinely cared about me? The moment you come back, you throw a fit and give me attitude.”
“…” Bo Zhan’s brows furrowed deeply as he gritted his teeth. “You know my status. When we got married, I also told you that it’s impossible for me to leave the military.”
Yun Shu refused to back down. “That is no excuse for failing your duties.”
Bo Zhan lowered his gaze. “So you courted death just to force me back to accompany you through the confinement period?!”
“What do you think?!” Yun Shu spoke with absolute confidence, looking completely as though she wasn’t lying at all.
To be honest, Bo Zhan truly found it hard to believe that a woman who had once detested him to the absolute extreme would actually want him to stay by her side and take care of her. Recalling the letters Yun Shu had mailed him, they were entirely filled with confessions of love for that man surnamed Duan.
For the sake of the child, he had chosen to endure it before. But Yun Shu’s tantrums had simply been too excessive, and Bo Zhan could no longer tolerate it.
“Are you saying you don’t plan to divorce me anymore?”
This was the main point.
