Chapter – 01

A Brother and Sister’s Conversation Summons a New Storm

Dawn

I was hunting by the seaside, a little ways from the house we lived in.

“Muuuuuu!!!”

An upper-level monster, the King Octopus, let out a battle cry and stretched its gigantic tentacles toward me, trying to swallow me whole.

But

I easily dodged its attacks.

With only the moonlight as our light source, normally it would be impossible to evade the King Octopus’s ferocious assault, but I—

—was wearing night-vision goggles, so I could track every single one of its movements.

And then,

“Summon: Tank Breaker.”

As I chanted, a weapon materialized before me.

This was a modified version of a weapon from my previous life, infused with magical power.

I grabbed it immediately,

aimed for the King Octopus’s head,

and shouted, “Take this!!!”

Along with my yell, a magically charged projectile shot forth at tremendous speed, striking the King Octopus’s head directly. It sank without a struggle.

After confirming no one was around, I tore off a chunk of the flying King Octopus’s flesh and sighed.

“If word gets out that a commoner took down an upper-level monster, it’ll cause an uproar. I can’t take this to the Guild Association either… If I’d taken a quest, I could’ve made a pretty penny…”

I laughed at myself and headed home.

In our terribly rundown house

“Brother!! I’m home!! Huh? What is this!? What are these round little things!?”

“Oh, this is a dish called takoyaki.”

Plus, Rina can use magic (so can I, for that matter).

Having been a huge fan of otherworld fantasy novels, I was well-versed in all kinds of magic myself.

Thanks to that, as I taught Rina various things over the years, she grew into a girl so excellent, strong, and adorable that she was able to enroll in Central Magic Academy.

After all, a commoner had never even been admitted to that academy before.

And Rina.

enrolled with the highest grades.

Neither the duke’s daughter nor the prince of royal blood could hold a candle to her.

I took it and read the contents.

Lately, my sister’s yandere tendencies have been getting dangerously intense.

We headed straight for the outdoor bath I’d built.

We were pressed together, each wearing just a single towel.

If anyone found out that the two of us were living alone in this tiny, rundown house, it wouldn’t end well.

Thinking that, I gently patted Rina’s wet head.

Rina, like a kitten, went limp and docilely accepted my touch. The contrast between her body and her expression was something else.

After our bath, we chugged some milk and headed back to our room.

“Communication magic tool?”

“Yes! It’s a wonderful tool I received from someone who’s always kind to me—it lets us exchange audio even from far away!”

Rina eagerly reached into her bag and grasped a stone-like object that began to glow. As she channeled power into the magic tool, the light eventually faded.

I grew worried and said,

“Could our conversation have been heard by that person?”

My sister shook her head left and right and replied,

“It’s fine! I wasn’t getting any connection from Lady Elena’s communication magic tool.”

“O-okay.”

So the person who’s always kind to my sister is named Lady Elena, huh.

Wait.

Elena?

“Elena… as in the Duchess of House Fiebel, the one said to be the strongest in the kingdom?”

“Yes!”

Brother’s getting a little anxious now.

“…That was close.”

Elena breathed heavily as she hurriedly turned off the communication magic tool.

Dressed in luxurious nightwear embroidered with beautiful patterns, she murmured in surprise.

“A commoner who can defeat a King Octopus and earn his sister’s tuition… and apparently he’s stronger and smarter than Rina too…”

Like a hunter who’d found a worthy rival, she curled the corners of her lips into a smile.
