Chapter – 09
Oh No, Your Wife Has Run Into a Clam Monster
A-Shang’s face darkened, but in the end, she sat back down.
Her body was in too poor a state right now; she couldn’t keep pushing herself.
A-Shang sat cross-legged on the ground and began using her spiritual power to recover her strength. The young man beside her seemed to know she was healing and did not disturb her.
No one knew how long had passedâperhaps half a day, or maybe a full day. A-Shang had barely managed to recover a few layers of her stamina. The moment she opened her eyes, she saw a spirit rabbit covered in a snowy white glow suddenly dart out in front of her.
At the sight of the rabbit, the young man, who had been silent for a long time, lit up and exclaimed joyfully, “It’s a Snow White Rabbit! I saw one up on the mountain before. Sister, maybe if we follow this rabbit, we’ll find the way out.”
So the two of them followed the Snow White Rabbit and indeed arrived at a place they had never set foot in before.
The originally dim tunnel suddenly opened up into a spacious area. Golden talismanic inscriptions were carved on the surrounding walls. Following where the golden talismans converged, they saw a sword that seemed to be quite old, floating in midair, with a faint golden light flowing around it.
“Wow~” The young man stared at the sword suspended in midair. “So coolâthis sword is floating in midair.” As he spoke, he instinctively reached out to touch it, but A-Shang stopped him.
“Don’t touch it.”
“Sister, what’s wrong?” The young man asked in confusion. “Could it be that this sword is why we’re trapped here? If we pull it out, maybe we can get out.”
A-Shang said, “These are sealing runes. They should be used to seal something. Don’t mess with them.”
Seeing that A-Shang actually recognized the runes as sealing symbols, the expression on the young man’s face changed slightly, and a chill crept into his gaze. But he quickly returned to normal. “So that’s how it is.”
The young man nodded. The next second, his stomach let out a loud rumble. His face flushed red, and he covered his belly in embarrassment.
Seeing A-Shang looking at him, he spoke weakly, “I haven’t eaten anything in a long time.”
A-Shang rummaged through the pouch she carried with her and unexpectedly found some braised pork knuckle bones she had made at some point. After a moment’s thought, she handed the pork bones to the young man.
At the sight of the pork bones, the young man’s eyes lit up. “Wow! It smells so good, just like it was freshly made. Sister, you’re amazing!”
The young man praised her as he ate.
Halfway through, he seemed to think of something and held out the half-eaten pork bone to A-Shang. “Sister, you have some too.”
A-Shang shook her head. “I’m not hungry. You eat it.”
When she said she wouldn’t eat, the young man paused briefly, then continued eating.
After he finished, he licked his lips with lingering satisfaction. “So delicious.”
He hadn’t eaten anything in tens of thousands of years.
As soon as A-Wu finished speaking, he noticed the girl’s gaze on him, carrying a hint of scrutiny. He immediately blinked his innocent eyes and asked in a affected, whiny voice, “Sister, what’s wrong?”
A-Shang looked away. “Nothing.”
The two rested there for a while longer, planning to see if there was a way out of this place.
But to A-Shang’s disappointment, aside from the sword floating overhead, there was nothing else.
Just as A-Shang was carefully examining the talismans suspended in midair, she suddenly heard the young man not far away let out a scream.
“Ahââ”
A-Shang turned her head and saw a huge demonic beast charging straight at the two of them.
“AhâSister, save me!” the young man screamed.
The demonic beast was far too fast. If A-Shang hadn’t reached out in time to block it, the young man would surely have been crushed flat by the beast.
The demonic beast was enormous. Compared to it, A-Shang could have been swatted to death with a single slap.
A-Shang’s hands formed a faint golden seal, and her spiritual power turned into countless ropes that restrained the demonic beast.
The young man, who was pretending to be terrified and cowering behind a rock, watched the girl battle the demonic beast.
The fight between the demon and the half-demon was extremely fierce. Wu Zhu watched coldly from the side while deliberately screaming in terror..
“Sister, be careful⊔
“Sister, watch out on the right⊔
“Sister, watch out on the left⊔
When Wu Zhu saw that the demon-binding ropes the girl had tied around the demonic beast had been snapped and broken free by the creature, and then watched as she struggled desperately beneath the beast’s claws, her strength failing, a flash of excitement passed through his eyes. He knew his chance had come.
“Sister, the sword!” Wu Zhu pointed at the sword suspended above them. “It’s a demonic beastâthat sword will definitely subdue it!”
In a life-or-death moment, a person’s only thought is to survive. Wu Zhu was certain that, in order to stay alive, she would pull out that sword and slay the demonic beast.
The next second, he saw the girl reach out toward the sword.
Wu Zhu was so excited his eyes widened. Almost there, almost thereâshe’s about to touch it!
She’s about to touchâ
Just as Wu Zhu thought the girl was about to pull the sword out, her hand, poised to draw it, paused and stopped.
Wu Zhu’s heart sank at the sight. He instantly dropped his affected tone and roared in fury, “Pull the damn sword out! Why are you stopping?!”
The roar reached A-Shang’s ears. Only after he’d finished speaking did Wu Zhu notice the icy coldness in the girl’s gaze, and his heart gave a jolt.
The next second, he hurriedly reverted to his whiny voice and said meekly, “Sister, Iâ”
“How much longer are you going to keep up the act?” A-Shang ignored the demonic beast clawing at her neck and instead shot a beam of golden light toward the young man.
The moment it touched him, the young man vanished without a trace, and the massive demonic beast disappeared along with him.
The light around them dimmed abruptly, and a powerful demonic aura spread through the air.
A low, deep laugh came from the darkness:
“HehâI’ve been found out!”
The darkness around them gradually receded, and eerie red talismanic symbols began emerging one after another on the stone walls and in midair, as if vying to appear first.
A sword radiating golden light hung in midair, illuminating the tall man kneeling beneath it.
The man had a pair of enormous horns on his head, his long hair spilling down to the ground. His wrists and back were pierced by chains, the bones impaled and bound.
His upper body was bare. Below his waist, instead of human legs, there was a serpentine tail covered in black scales.
Before A-Shang could make out his features, a surge of black energy shot toward her and immediately clamped around her neck. The man’s gloomy voice came through gritted teeth:
“A mere half-demon dares to toy with me? How exactly did you see through me?”
His acting had been flawlessâno loopholes at all.
He couldn’t figure it out. He couldn’t understand how she had seen through him.
A-Shang: “The bones.”
Wu Zhu: “What?”
A-Shang: “You ate the entire plate of pork knuckle bones.”
“So what?” Wu Zhu was baffled. What did his exposure have to do with a plate of pork bones?
A-Shang said: “Ordinary people’s teeth can’t bite through bones that big, and no one would eat them. You ate every last oneâclean to the bone.”
Wu Zhu: “⊔
Wu Zhu never imagined that he would be exposed because of a plate of pork knuckle bones.
He flew into a rage: “How the hell was I supposed to know you damn mortals don’t eat pork knuckle bones?! It’s been over ten thousand years! I’ve been locked up here for over ten thousand yearsâten thousand years! I’ve been starving for ten thousand whole years! Forget pork knuckle bonesâeven if it were a whole mountain, I could swallow it in one gulp right now!”
