Chapter 07
“You don’t even know how to do this step? Grandma will teach you. Put your hand hereâyes, just hook it over this string…” Old Mrs. Liang was teaching her with great relish.
An elderly person’s happiness was always simple; usually, just having someone around to chat with and ease their boredom was enough to satisfy them.
Meanwhile, standing at the other end of the corridor, Ye Jin had already been silently staring at that profile for quite a while.
She looks just like her, but how could it possibly be?
When she saw the girl lower her head and smile gently, Ye Jin felt the resemblance growing strongerâresembling the person she had met in the nightclub that night…
Feeling a bit thirsty, Xia An walked over to a nearby vending machine to buy some water. She selected a bottle of soda water, but when she was about to pay, she discovered her phone was dead. Groping around her pockets, she found she didn’t have a single cent of loose change either.
The sound of high heels echoed from behind her.
Xia An looked down at the shadow on the ground. Not wanting to keep the other person waiting, she turned around and said, “You can go firstâ”
Ye Jin stared at the person in front of her. Beneath the white lab coat, her figure was thin and delicate. Because her face was small and exquisite, having her hair tied up actually accentuated the advantages of her features.
Staring at Xia An’s face, the habitually rigorous President Ye even considered the possibility of a twin in her mind. But analyzing the way the other person looked at her…
It was indeed the exact same person.
Xia An was a bit dazed. Just a moment ago, she was wondering if she would ever meet her again, and the next second she turned around, the woman was standing right behind her. As usual, she was dressed in sharp, professional attire, with her shirt sleeves rolled up to reveal her delicate, elegant wrists.
Just like that night, she was graceful and absolutely bursting with presence.
Meeting for the second time, Xia An looked at her and smiled, but she still couldn’t read any emotion on that breathtakingly beautiful face. Could it be that she didn’t recognize me?
Ye Jin took a step forward to purchase something from the vending machine. In the end, she retrieved two bottles of soda water. Turning back around, she silently cast a glance at Xia An, and then handed one of the bottles right into her hand…
This came as another surprise to Xia An.
Ye Jin: “My treat.”
The expression on this face was always indifferent. Whether she was quiet or speaking, even when standing right next to her, she somehow made people feel as though she were thousands of miles away.
A total ice queen.
Xia An could be described as pleasantly surprised as she accepted the water from Ye Jin’s hand. “Thank you… you still remember me?”
Naturally, she remembered.
Ye Jin recalled the events of that night…
It was quite difficult not to leave a deep impression.
Ye Jin appraised Xia An’s outfit, as well as the employee badge pinned to her chest, finding it hard to believe. “You’re a doctor?”
Her tone was filled with skepticism.
“Do I not look like one?” Xia An’s first reaction was to defend herself, a hint of grievance and helplessness mixing into her smile. “President Ye, I told you that night that you misunderstood me…”
Chapter 4
Ye Jin focused her eyes to get a clear look at the other person’s employee badge.
Written in the name column was: Xia An.
She really was a doctor.
Ye Jin was left speechless. Miss Xia’s words and behavior that night made it incredibly difficult for anyone not to misunderstand. And it was precisely because of that night that Ye Jinâs impression of this Miss Xia couldn’t be described as particularly good…
Ye Jin could still vividly remember the situation back then.
Xia An held the soda water in her hand. Due to the temperature difference, a layer of cold frost had formed on the plastic bottle, making her palm feel ice-coldâmuch like the feeling the person in front of her gave off.
But in the scorching summer heat, it actually felt quite comfortable.
The hospital at midday was exceptionally quiet.
The cicadas chirped continuously outside.
After being busy for most of the day, Xia An had originally felt somewhat exhausted, but it vanished completely because of this chance encounter.
The smile on her face remained innocent, looking just like a young girl who knew nothing of the world upon first entering society.
Ye Jin begged to differ. Though, to be fair, seeing her appear in the hospital wearing a white lab coat was far more fitting than seeing her holding a wine glass and mingling in a nightclub.
Right now was the time of day when the sunlight was at its strongest, making the white-toned walls look somewhat glaring. Xia An and Ye Jin looked at each other; compared to the dark obscurity of that night, they could see each other much more clearly now.
“Xia An~” Their brief conversation was broken. A little nurse in a pink uniform came rushing over in a flurry. “Why didn’t you reply to the messages I sent you?”
“My phone just ran out of battery.”
“The director is looking for you. Hurry up!”
The little nurse grabbed Xia An, preparing to drag her away.
Xia An stole a hasty glance at Ye Jin. She wanted to say something, but realized there didn’t seem to be anything worth saying, so she merely smiled to greet her. “President Ye, I’ll take my leave first.”
Ye Jin cast a faint glance, offering no response. The other girl was wearing flat shoes today, which made her frame look even more petite and delicate.
That silhouette was remarkably thin, looking as though a gust of wind could blow it away.
After standing on the spot for a moment, Ye Jin walked unhurriedly toward the bench in the corridor, taking a seat beside the elderly lady.
Old Mrs. Liang lowered her head, stubbornly untangling the messy knot of string in her hands. She had been working on it for several minutes, only for it to become messier, yet she single-mindedly refused to give up. She truly was a stubborn and strong-willed old lady.
Before walking very far, Xia An couldn’t resist looking back. She happened to see Ye Jin and Old Mrs. Liang sitting together, chatting.
Xia An suddenly realized something. So, it turned out…
“Hurry up, the director is about to throw a tantrum.”
“Coming.”
“Grandma,” Ye Jin took the string from the old lady’s hands and spoke patiently, “We’re going to handle the discharge procedures today. Come home with me.”
“I’m not leaving the hospital. I’m doing perfectly fine here. I’m not going to your place; I’m just going to stay in the hospital.” When Old Mrs. Liang threw a tantrum, she was the exact replica of a child.
“The doctor said you can already be discharged. Besides, with you staying here all by yourself, how can I put my mind at ease?”
“Why wouldn’t you be at ease? Let me tell you, the doctors and nurses here are wonderful to me. When they have time, they even chat with me to ease my boredom. Oh right, that little doctor just nowâshe’s the girl I always tell you about. She’s such a good person…”
That little doctor. Ye Jin had heard the old lady nagging and praising her countless times, and it actually turned out to be her? Xia An’s face instantly surfaced in Ye Jin’s mind, and she recalled her gentle, serious expression when she lowered her head just now…
Even so, Ye Jin still found it difficult to equate her with the girl who was indulging in nightlife entertainment and flirting with people in the nightclub that night.
