Chapter 06
Internal Issues
Mu Yudie did not tell Murong Xiao what was special about the tassel, and Murong Xiao didn’t ask. He believed that when the time came for him to know, he would naturally find out. Besides, he had already received so much kindness; he no longer dared to ask for anything more.
Mu Yudieās promise to teach Murong Xiao everything she knew was not a lie. After all, Murong Xiao was her first apprentice, and she truly wanted him to inherit her mantle. Furthermore, having probed Murong Xiaoās memories through the Ancient Tree of Life, she knew what kind of person he was and what he had experienced. His character had been vetted, and she was satisfied.
To satisfy Murong Xiaoās curiosity, Mu Yudie gave a brief introduction of herself. She was a “Magic Queen.” In the past, she had been ostracized by the human race for certain reasons, and later, due to her close ties with the local Elven Queen, Letitia, she chose to reside here.
As for the specific details… she did not reveal much.
Murong Xiao had read about the profession of “Magic Queen” in books. It was a branch of magic users, distinct from the generally accepted “superpower” professions among humans. A magic user was not limited to controlling a single element; the things they could do were vast and numerous.
Because of this, the path of a magic user was far more complex than that of a superpower user. It required not only innate talent but also a deep foundation of knowledge to learn. It was best to have a master to guide you; otherwise, trying to figure out the foundations on your own was impossible, as every single spell might be the result of a predecessorās blood and sweat.
Perhaps it was for this reason that modern human society had gravitated toward superpower cultivation, which only required talent and little foundation. Most of them could only use one or two abilities, but after leveling up, they were still very powerful.
Furthermore, in the current interstellar era, humanity had discovered many powerful weapons. Consequently, people were becoming less and less concerned with their own cultivation. Increasing physical fitness was only done to better operate those weapons. Since they could use weapons even without cultivation, and the end results were about the same, why go through the trouble?
Of course, there were still those who believed that being personally powerful was the true path, but they were in the minority and could not interfere with the evolution of mainstream human cultivation trends.
To Murong Xiao, the reason for the decline of cultivation didn’t matter. He only wanted to gain powerful abilities quickly so he could return and take his revenge. It was that simple.
Mu Yudie saw this, so she stopped chatting and began Murong Xiaoās training.
Although Murong Xiao was already ten years old, it was not too late to start cultivating. Moreover, his comprehension was extremely high. Under Mu Yudieās hands-on guidance, he quickly stepped into the realm of magic users and learned the most basic spell: “Memory Casting.”
As the spell was successfully cast, Murong Xiaoās rose-red pupils shone with a faint, fluorescent light, making them look even more beautiful.
Mu Yudie took the opportunity to take out an ancient book and handed it to Murong Xiao to read, carefully instructing him: “Once you are familiar with the incantations, you won’t need to recite them out loud. Merely activating your magic power and reciting them in your mind will have the same effect. The function of Memory Casting is to ensure you never forget what you’ve read. Everything in this book is foundational knowledge; read it carefully.”
With that, Mu Yudie turned and vanished.
At that same moment, inside the vast Elven Palace beneath the Ancient Tree of Life, Elven Queen Letitia was locked in a standoff with a dozen elders.
It was trueāthe sudden appearance of an outsider as an Elven Princess could be hidden from ordinary elves, but not from these key elders. To them, Murong Xiao was just a half-elf; he not only lacked the qualifications to stay here, but certainly didn’t deserve the title of Elven Princess.
Seeing Mu Yudieās sudden appearance, the faces of the elven elders darkened further. Mu Yudie had told Murong Xiao she was just “borrowing” space here, but in reality, her status was not that simple; otherwise, as a human, she wouldn’t have been able to walk into the Elven Palace, such a solemn place, at will.
Unlike the elders’ expressions, Letitia felt a sense of relief upon seeing Mu Yudie: “You’ve arrived.”
Mu Yudie nodded slightly, then stepped down from the dais beside Letitia to put herself on a lower level. No matter how good their relationship was, this was the Elven Palace, and Letitia was the Elven Queen; she had to show the proper respect.
“Xiao is my apprentice now. Furthermore, her staying here has been approved by the Ancient Tree of Life. Do you have any objections?”
Mu Yudie was not afraid of these old folks. When she helped Letitia seize the throne in the past, she hadn’t needed to argue with them, and her current position to stand here as a human was won through those very arguments.
“She can stay, but the title of ‘Princess’ is not something she deserves.”
“Right, staying is fine, but the title of Princess must never be given to an outsider. If you give her the title now, will you hand over the title of Queen next? What are you trying to turn the elven race into?”
…
Mu Yudie was in no hurry to retort. She waited until they finished speaking, then took a magic wand covered in strange runes out of her space ring and said: “The status of Princess is of great importance to her, so it cannot be revoked. However… don’t you think itās a bit too early to discuss that position? Or are you saying you want to change who sits on the throne at any time?”
“No… that is not what we meant.”
“Your Majesty, please maintain your composure.”
…
Fearing that Mu Yudie might take action in the next second, the elven elders were truly panicked. They just didn’t accept a human like Murong Xiao, but they didn’t want to be the ones to destroy the harmony of the elven race.
“Die, thatās enough. No matter what, they are the elders of our elven race; they are thinking of the future of the tribe.”
“Hmph.”
Mu Yudie turned and vanished into thin air again. Her role as the “bad cop” had concluded.
Because of this, the elven eldersā gazes once again focused on Letitia, waiting to see how she would handle the issue.
“The matter of Xiao is decided. It is not that you lack the status, but that you yourselves currently lack the capability. Instead of suppressing an outsider, you should go back and think about how to improve your own potential. Our elven race is different from other tribes; elemental affinity can be improved later. When your descendants reach that threshold, I will grant the same status to them as I have to her.”
