Chapter – 09
You’re Too Eager to Get Ahead
<Item Information>
Name: Perfect Love Letter
Rank: A-Rank
Description:
1) Upon using the Perfect Love Letter, the target will inevitably be moved by your words and obey your commands.
2) This is a one-time consumable item. It has reduced effectiveness or may even be ineffective against targets with high mental resistance.
Value: 1000 Points
Lynn quickly skimmed through the item information.
This A-Rank item should be a mental attack type item.
Unfortunately, it’s a consumable, and it has limitations.
No need to think twiceâit definitely wouldn’t work on Galron, a Demon Lord’s Four Heavenly Kings type.
Otherwise, Lynn would go find Galron right now, hand him the “Perfect Love Letter,” and tell him to slit his own throat.
Would it work on Lena?
It would probably work on Alger, whose strength is relatively weaker among monsters.
Another point worth noting is that this A-Rank item is valued at 1000 Points.
Since the value is marked, does that mean it can be exchanged for 1000 Points?
As soon as he thought of it, a prompt appeared:
[Are you sure you want to exchange the A-Rank item ‘Perfect Love Letter’ for 1000 Points?]
After a second of hesitation, Lynn declined.
The “Perfect Love Letter” is very useful; he’ll keep it for now.
The idiot god “Pure Love Invincible” finally gave something useful…
Unknowingly, Lena, arm in arm with Lynn, arrived at the street.
The streets of the underground city were bustling with monsters coming and going.
Only Lynn and Lena, two humans, stood out conspicuously.
Facing the gazes of countless monsters, Lena was visibly nervous, while Lynn remained calm and composed.
After all, he was the 108th Head under “The Giant Strength King” Galron!
He had status!
Many monsters noticed the identity badge hanging from Lynn’s waist and didn’t dare to cause trouble.
And so, Lynn led his “new wife” strutting boldly down the monster-infested streets.
“Once you lose your value, do you think Galron will let you go? Will these monsters still respect you?” Lena said softly.
“I know you’re worried I might actually become a human traitor, so you’re reminding me not to take myself too seriously.”
“Good that you understand.”
“Don’t worry, I know the saying ‘Those not of our kind are bound to have different hearts.’ Before I lose my value, I will definitely help you complete the assassination mission.”
Assisting Lena was also helping himselfâLynn had calculated it perfectly.
“I’ll get you an identity badge later too, so you can move freely in certain areas like me.”
If Lena didn’t have an identity badge, she’d have to stay by Lynn’s side at all times.
That would drive Lena crazy, and Lynn even more so.
“Lynn! Over here!” Alger waved at him from a distance.
“Yo, Brother Jie!” Lynn put on a smile and hurried over with Lena.
Besides Alger, there was also a Lizardman; the two of them were having breakfast.
One eating grilled meat, the other eating grilled fish.
Lynn recognized this Lizardmanâhis name was Bennett, the 21st Head, in charge of patrolling certain parts of the underground city.
As he walked over, Lynn checked the Lizardman Bennett’s stats.
This guy was slightly stronger than Alger, but even together, they’d be no match for Lena.
“Brother Jie, Brother Bennett, good morning!” Lynn greeted them, nudging Lena with his elbow.
Lena put on her acting skills and returned the greeting with a smile.
“Sit.” Alger said while eating.
Lynn and Lena sat down next to each other.
“This female knight is this obedient?” Bennett looked at Lena with interest.
Lynn replied, “Thanks to Lord Galron using a forbidden magic to seal her power. If she weren’t obedient, she wouldn’t have the chance to sit beside me. A wise person knows when to adapt, right?”
Alger and Bennett both laughed heartily.
“Not only that,” Lynn continued, “I also plan to use her as my assistant to contribute to the underground city together and serve Lord Galron together.”
[Lena can’t help but suspect you’re a die-hard human traitor!]
Lynn: “…”
This is called *acting*!
The “veteran actor” Lynn immediately received praise from Bennett:
“Good! Well said! If all humans had your awareness, Lynn, that would be great.”
In high spirits, Bennett proactively offered Lynn and Lena breakfast: “Do you want grilled meat or grilled fish?”
“Grilled fish.” Lynn dared not eat the grilled meat.
They had killed quite a few human prisoners yesterday; the meat’s raw material might very well be human flesh…
When the grilled fish arrived, Lena ate in silence.
She absolutely never imagined that she, the Flame Saintess, would one day sit at the same table eating breakfast with a Goblin and a Lizardman.
Sometimes, reality is just that surreal…
“By the way, Brother Bennett, I heard from Brother Jie that you’ve been selected for Lord Galron’s personal guard again. That’s truly enviable.”
Lynn deliberately steered the conversation toward the matter of the “personal guard.”
Bennett laughed heartily: “Yeah, serving by Lord Galron’s side is our honor.
But patrolling the underground city is also important, so I have to adjust my work schedule a bit.”
Lynn noticed Bennett’s furrowed brow and immediately asked:
“What’s wrong? Is Brother Bennett’s patrol team short-handed?”
“Yeah, you noticed that? Humans really are sharp.”
“You flatter me, brother.” Lynn finally revealed his true intention, “Do you need my help?”
At those words, Lena glanced at Lynn discreetly.
Lynn was executing their plan to farm performance points!
Alger, who was eating grilled meat, interjected:
“Lynn, don’t forget what your main job is.”
“I haven’t forgotten, Brother Jie,” Lynn said. “I mean, while doing my main job well, I’d also like to assist Brother Bennett or you. Please, brothers, let this little brother serve you!”
Bennett: “…”
Alger: “…”
“Hahaha!” Bennett swallowed a grilled fish whole and said while chewing, “Lynn, you’re too eager to get ahead!”
“I can’t hide anything from you two brothers,” Lynn pretended, “I really do want to advance, hoping to be chosen by Lord Galron and become his personal guard sooner.”
Bennett slammed the table: “With that ambition of yours, I have to get you to help!”
[Bennett desperately needs assistance, and your volunteering is exactly what he wants.]
And just like that, Lynn and this Lizardman reached a wonderful understanding.
“Lord Alger!â” A Goblin guard rushed in hurriedly, interrupting the conversation between Lynn and Bennett.
Alger looked displeased: “What?! What’s all the panic? Is the Demon King here or has the Hero’s party broken in?!”
After catching his breath, the Goblin guard reported:
“It’s about the human prisoners held in the caveâone of them slipped out when the guards weren’t paying attention.”
“Huh? Escaped?!”
“No, we caught him again.”
“Then why are you even telling me? Just chop his head off!”
“Ah, well…” The Goblin guard turned to look at Lynn, “Last night, you said these human prisoners would henceforth be Lord Lynn’s men?
That’s why I came to ask for your instructions…”
Alger slapped his forehead: “That’s right!”
These prisoners had already been handed over to Lynn by Alger last night.
“In that case,” Alger pulled out a short knife and slapped it on the table, “Lynn, go chop off that prisoner who tried to escape.”
Lynn: “…”
Damn!
He had never killed anyone before!
