Chapter 10
Little President Cheng proudly lifted her chin.
Too adorable!
Shen Yunmiao couldn’t resist and planted a loud kiss right on her.
“…Meow.”
Gross. It’s all slobbery.
Little President Cheng raised a paw to push her away, but the force was pitifully weak, looking more like reluctant acceptance than rejection.
Only after rubbing her soft fur a few more times did Shen Yunmiao finally set her little cat down. Excitedly, she said,
“Last time the Qingming Festival was interrupted by the earthquake, so we never really got to enjoy the holiday. Look what I brought you today!”
What else could it be?
Other than canned food and cat treats, wasn’t it just freeze-dried little fish?
Little President Cheng looked utterly disdainful. Her tail flicked lightly, but her body honestly walked over to Shen Yunmiao and rubbed her head against her.
She… she was only scratching an itch on her head.
Shen Yunmiao didn’t mind at all. She bent down, picked her up, and placed her on the dining table before taking a luxurious-looking red gift box out of her bag.
Little President Cheng glanced at it and gave a reluctant meow.
It’s… acceptable, I guess. But you’re being way too extravagant.
Shen Yunmiao had no idea that her cat worried about her finances every single day. Happily, she guided the little cat’s paw to help open the box.
Inside was a red cord.
Hanging from it was an exquisitely crafted silver cat paw charm, delicate and beautiful, sparkling beneath the lights.
Little President Cheng’s eyes were immediately drawn to it.
Well… it’s pretty nice.
She proudly raised her little head.
Shen Yunmiao naturally understood that meant she liked it and carefully fastened it around her neck.
“Sweetie, there’s a tracking chip inside this. With it, no matter where you go, your big sister will always be able to find you. So don’t break it, okay?”
She gently rubbed the cat’s fluffy pink cheeks before continuing,
“My good girl, promise you’ll always wear it, alright? If I can’t find you, I’ll be so worried.”
Her voice was as gentle as rippling water, softly flowing straight into Cheng Jianian’s heart.
“Meow!”
Alright then.
I’ll agree.
For the first time ever, Little President Cheng took the initiative to lick Shen Yunmiao’s fingertip.
Chapter 9
My Wife’s Flowers Were Rejected!
Overall, Cheng Jianian was quite satisfied with her Labor Day present.
The only thing she disliked was the new cat bed.
Shen Yunmiao had apparently noticed that she preferred sleeping on the bed, but instead of realizing that her cat wasn’t actually a cat, she assumed the problem was that the old cat bed wasn’t good enough.
Shen Yunmiao was the kind of person who acted quickly.
If the water fountain wasn’t good, she’d replace it.
If the cat bed wasn’t good, she’d naturally buy a new one too.
So besides the beautiful tracker, Little President Cheng also received a silver-gray cat bed that looked warm and elegant.
But Little President Cheng was a human, not a cat.
To her, sleeping in a cat bed felt no different from sleeping on the floor.
She immediately waved a paw in clear refusal.
“You don’t like this one either, Sweetie?” Shen Yunmiao sighed as she hugged her stubborn little cat. “Cats can’t be this willful.”
“Meow!”
Then you sleep on the floor.
Completely unmoved by the beauty’s broken-hearted expression, Little President Cheng raised a paw and pushed Shen Yunmiao’s face away, making her ironclad opinion perfectly clear.
“No, Sweetie. If you sleep beside me, I might accidentally pull the blanket away from you. You’ll catch a cold,” Shen Yunmiao said, the tips of her ears turning red.
Mentioning that made Cheng Jianian angry.
Who could have guessed that such a gentle, beautiful heroine like Shen Yunmiao not only tossed and turned in her sleep but also stole the blanket?
There was no need to think about it.
A spoiled rich second-generation heir like Ji Hanfeng, who always did as he pleased, definitely wouldn’t have tolerated it.
Only she had been flexible enough to adapt to Shen Yunmiao’s sleeping habits.
Yet despite all her compromises, Shen Yunmiao still insisted on invading her sleeping space!
Thinking of this, the fluffy white cat angrily bit Shen Yunmiao’s fingertip.
Her normally sharp little teeth worked hard, but all they left behind was a damp bite mark.
Shen Yunmiao’s heart instantly softened.
But remembering the little sneeze the cat had let out that morning, she forced herself to stay firm.
Rubbing the cat’s head, she said seriously,
“Anyway, Sweetie has to be obedient. You can only sleep in your cat bed. If you insist on climbing onto the bed, I’ll lock the bedroom door tonight. But if you stay off the bed, then you can sleep in the same room as me.”
Listen to that.
Was that something a cat could even understand?
Climb onto the bed and get kicked out.
Stay off the bed and you can remain.
Little President Cheng was furious.
After grumbling several angry meows, she reluctantly chose to stay in the room.
Shen Yunmiao happily rubbed her head.
“That’s more like it. Sweetie, I want to sleep beside you too, but your safety is more important.”
“…Meow.”
Hmph. What nonsense.
Little President Cheng already had a plan.
When night fell and the lights in every household went out, she waited until she heard Shen Yunmiao’s steady breathing.
Then the little white cat quietly climbed onto the bed.
She had completely mastered the art of climbing as a cat.
Her movements were smooth and practiced.
Only after finding that familiar cool yet gentle scent, as pure as freshly fallen snow, did she peacefully close her eyes.
If you won’t let the cat sleep on the bed, then the cat will simply sneak up before dawn so you never find out.
Bad big sister!
Even in her dreams, the little cat kept grumbling.
Completely unaware that someone had quietly tucked a tiny warm blanket over her body, perfectly sized so it wouldn’t get pulled away.
During the long Labor Day holiday, Shen Yunmiao spent several consecutive days filming.
Her back and waist ached from exhaustion.
At the same time, she remained cautiously on guard against her coworkers.
Yuan Duan had been right.
One should always be wary of others.
Shen Yunmiao had encountered remarkably few genuinely good people growing up, so her sense of caution had become exceptionally sharp.
Whenever she recalled those unpleasant events from middle school, she couldn’t help thinking of that person.
…She’s sick.
Maybe I should go see her.
But based on past experience, Shen Yunmiao knew her chances of actually seeing her were very slim.
She had grown accustomed to being turned away after so many unsuccessful visits.
After packing up, she stopped by the flower shop to pick up the bouquet of pink tulips she had ordered in advance.
Their elegant fragrance drifted gently toward her.
She placed the flowers into the basket of a shared bicycle and followed the familiar route.
The trip went fairly smoothly, though the filming location had been so remote that by the time she arrived, it was already nearly nine o’clock.
The hospital looked just as she remembered.
The low Western-style building resembled someone’s private villa more than a hospital.
Even from a distance, she could see layers upon layers of blooming flowers in the courtyard, glowing beautifully beneath the streetlights.
Looking at the bouquet that had somehow survived the bumpy ride in the bicycle basket, Shen Yunmiao felt a trace of embarrassment.
Well…
At least this was the nicest gift she could afford right now.
She parked the bicycle, picked up the bouquet, and walked toward the entrance.
The place was secluded, more like a private sanatorium than a hospital, with extremely strict security.
A guard stopped her.
After explaining whom she had come to visit, she was finally allowed inside, though only after receiving several suspicious looks.
Sometimes…
A pretty face really did matter.
Shen Yunmiao simply didn’t look like someone who would lie.
She possessed a pure, snow-like elegance, and above all, her hands looked refined enough to have never done manual labor.
The security guard didn’t dare offend someone who appeared to come from wealth and status, so after hesitating, he let her through.
Little did he know…
The patient she had come to visit probably no longer even remembered what she looked like.
Shen Yunmiao sighed softly.
She had been here once before.
She knew perfectly well that getting past the remaining checkpoints wouldn’t be so easy.
Sure enough, she was stopped again downstairs.
She didn’t have a visitor’s pass, nor was she a familiar face.
The nurse naturally became suspicious.
Expecting this, Shen Yunmiao didn’t argue.
Instead, she said gently,
“I heard that Miss Cheng Jianian is ill. I’m her friend. I know patients need plenty of rest, so it’s perfectly fine if I can’t go in. I only hope you’ll help deliver this bouquet for me. There’s no need for me to enter her room. I just want her to know that someone cares about her and hopes she recovers soon.”
Seeing that the young nurse was still hesitating, Shen Yunmiao quickly added,
“These are tulips. There’s nothing wrong with them.”
She gently pinched a pink petal between her fingers, brought it to her lips, curled her tongue slightly, and the petal disappeared into her mouth.
The young nurse had never witnessed anything like that.
Her face instantly turned bright red.
“A-Alright. I’ll deliver them for you. But… please don’t come again. Our rules don’t allow it.”
“Of course. Thank you for reminding me. I was in the wrong. I won’t do it again. Thank you so much for helping me this once.”
The moment she received the nurse’s agreement, Shen Yunmiao’s eyes lit up like the moon reflected in a clear stream.
Just as the nurse reached for the bouquet, a voice suddenly interrupted.
“Wait.”
A young woman with sharp features stepped forward and stopped her.
Her expression was displeased.
“Do you even know who she is before agreeing to deliver something for her? What if something happens? Let me tell you, if anything happens to President Cheng, even all of us put together couldn’t possibly compensate for it.”
Although Shen Yunmiao didn’t recognize her, she could guess her identity.
She was undoubtedly someone who worked closely with Cheng Jianian, most likely one of her trusted subordinates.
Forcing a smile, Shen Yunmiao took the bouquet back.
“I’m sorry. I overstepped. I’m President Cheng’s high school classmate. I have no ill intentions. I’m just worried about her.”
“Thank you for your concern. Once President Cheng recovers, I’ll pass along your regards,” Zuo Ying replied coldly.
A lie.
If she truly intended to pass along the message, why hadn’t she even asked for her name?
Shen Yunmiao didn’t press the matter.
She simply bowed slightly.
“I’m sorry for disturbing you. Goodbye.”
She left the same way she had entered.
Only now, the hope she had arrived with had faded into loneliness.
The young nurse couldn’t help saying,
“Miss Zuo, I think just now…”
“Enough. I know you’re kind-hearted. But there are too many bad people in this world. We can’t judge people based on their faces, can we?”
Zuo Ying sighed helplessly.
Ever since the boss’s car accident, she had remained unconscious inside the hospital.
No one had even figured out exactly what had happened yet.
How could anyone possibly let down their guard?
She admitted that the young woman had looked like a genuinely good person.
But their boss herself looked like an aloof, heartless jerk.
Judging people by appearances was absolutely out of the question.
Cheng Jianian was just about to fall asleep when she suddenly heard a click.
The door had opened.
