Chapter 11
It was obvious that this person was already trying her best to tiptoe around, but unfortunately, after turning into a cat, she was no longer someone who could be fooled so easily.
She angrily ran over and let out a couple of meowing complaints at Shen Yunmiao.
It’s so late already. It’s dangerous outside. Does this heroine, who already has a knack for getting herself abused, have no self-awareness at all?
Hearing the familiar little meow, Shen Yunmiao’s exhausted mind finally relaxed. She reached out and turned on the light, seeing the familiar little white cat loaf.
Cheng Jianian also noticed the bouquet of tulips in her hand. They were pink. Even after being tossed around all night, they were still richly fragrantāa scent that cats found thoroughly unpleasant.
Little President Cheng disdainfully jumped onto the table and circled the bouquet once. It was acceptable. Just average.
Still, weren’t pink tulips meant for lovers? She remembered that their flower language was eternal love.
Her pink-and-white cat ears immediately perked up. Little President Cheng entered full alert mode, circling the bouquet over and over, trying to sniff out who had given the flowers.
Seeing her like this after changing into clean clothes, Shen Yunmiao’s heart softened. She picked up her little cat and sighed softly.
“Sweetie, do you also think these flowers are beautiful? Then why… do some people hate them so much?”
Toward the end, her voice caught slightly, though only for an instant before returning to normal.
Some people?
Who wouldn’t like these flowers?
Could it be that these weren’t flowers someone had given Shen Yunmiao, but flowers Shen Yunmiao had given someone that had been returned?!!
Cheng Jianian couldn’t figure it out no matter how much she thought about it. She could eliminate Ji Hanfeng immediately. That loser would probably get rejected if he tried giving Shen Yunmiao flowers, let alone reject flowers from her.
Then who could it be who had rejected Shen Yunmiao’s flowers?
Jian Shen? Or Xu Boyang, the gentle second male lead from the novel?
No, no. Xu Boyang didn’t even know Shen Yunmiao at this point!
While she was lost in thought, Shen Yunmiao absentmindedly continued stroking her. The cat in her arms felt wonderfully soft, but her eyes remained lifeless.
Under the light, only the dark, jade-like pupils shimmered faintly.
Sensing her sadness, Little President Cheng, though not understanding why, still did her best to rub her head against Shen Yunmiao.
“Meow.”
Don’t be sad. If they don’t like them, they’re the blind ones. I like them. I really do. Next time, just give them to me instead.
Her earnest efforts finally drew Shen Yunmiao’s attention. She hugged the little cat tightly and whispered,
“I’m fine.”
“Thank you, my sweetie.”
“If it weren’t for you, these flowers would have gone to waste again just like before. Fortunately, now I have you. I won’t give her flowers anymore. From now on, I’ll only buy flowers for you, okay?”
“Meow!”
That’s more like it!
The woman and the cat snuggled tightly together, making even the dim yellow light feel warm.
Chapter 10
My Wife Smells So Good, Meow!
After the heartwarming moment passed, Shen Yunmiao went to wash up, looking as though she was about to go to bed.
Thinking about what she had done during the day, Little President Cheng immediately felt guilty. Meow… What if she said the cat bed had started it first…? Normally it would be one thing, but now she really didn’t dare let the already heartbroken Shen Yunmiao see the disastrous state of the bedroom.
Although after spending these days together, she had realized Shen Yunmiao truly fit the image of a gentle, delicate heroine, surely anyone, no matter how gentle, would get angry after seeing that mess…
Click.
The bathroom light went out. Wrapped in fresh moisture, Shen Yunmiao stepped out and closed the door behind her. She carried the clean scent of melting snow.
Tilting her head as she dried her hair, she walked out of the bathroom and saw the elegant-looking odd-eyed cat sitting primly in front of her bedroom door. When the cat saw her, it tilted its head too.
Shen Yunmiao smiled.
“Sweetie, are you waiting to sleep with me?”
“Meow!”
You can understand it that way… Little President Cheng’s tail stiffened as her determination to guard the bedroom door grew even stronger.
After some careful thinking just now, she suddenly realized that if she clung to Shen Yunmiao a little longer tonight until she was so sleepy she collapsed into bed, then the whole getting-angry-before-bedtime part could be skipped.
By tomorrow, after a good night’s rest, Shen Yunmiao’s mood would probably be much better. Seeing the mess then, she wouldn’t be nearly as angry.
She really was a genius to come up with such a perfect solution.
Little President Cheng used all four paws to throw herself onto Shen Yunmiao’s slippers, letting out several sugary sweet little meows while blinking pitifully.
She refused to believe Shen Yunmiao could resist petting such an adorable kitty.
As expected, Shen Yunmiao was instantly captivated. She scooped up her little cat in both hands and gently rubbed her forehead against hers.
“Sweetie, why are you so clingy today?”
Feeling guilty, Cheng Jianian turned her face away and merely lifted a paw to rub Shen Yunmiao’s shoulder.
“Alright. It’s very late now. Let’s go to sleep first, okay?”
“Meeeeow!!!”
No! Ahhh, how can you resist petting such an adorable kitty?!
Little President Cheng despaired inwardly and slowly closed her eyes. Shen Yunmiao had already carried her past the bedroom doorway, yet instead of the expected light switching on, darkness remained.
When the little white cat opened her eyes again, she realized she was lying at the foot of the bed.
“Meow?”
Thanks to her excellent night vision, Little President Cheng could clearly see Shen Yunmiao crouching on the floor, quietly cleaning up the mess she herself had made.
Shen Yunmiao’s voice was as gentle as ever.
“Sweetie, were you afraid I’d be angry? Big Sister will never get angry with you. From now on, sleep on the bed with Big Sister, okay?”
…Damn.
Little President Cheng’s face flushed uncontrollably.
She was way too gentle. How could Shen Yunmiao be this wonderful…
Cheng Jianian couldn’t even remember when Shen Yunmiao finished cleaning and got into bed. All she remembered was that, half asleep, someone carrying the clean, damp scent of freshly melted snow gently tucked a tiny blanket made just for her over her.
Long afterward, even after she was no longer a cat, Little President Cheng still found herself hopelessly intoxicated by that crisp scent of newly melted snow.
The atmosphere on set today was incredibly tense. Jian Shen had been losing his temper nonstop, and even Yuan Duan didn’t dare try to calm him down.
Shen Yunmiao didn’t particularly care whether Jian Shen was angry or not. However, today was the weekend. If they didn’t finish filming her scenes today, she’d have to wait until next week, which might delay the production schedule. A delayed schedule meant delayed payment.
Shen Yunmiao cared about money. She was still waiting to buy snacks for the little cat waiting at home.
She had no idea what had happened. She walked over to ask Yuan Duan, but before she could speak, Yuan Duan met her watery eyes and volunteered the explanation.
“This has nothing to do with us today. It’s those bosses who ticked Director Jian off.”
Shen Yunmiao blinked, silently hoping it wasn’t another issue involving her character. She was still waiting to collect the remaining payment so she could buy canned food for her little kitty. The little fellow was so picky that she barely ate cat food.
Yuan Duan said, “A couple of days ago, Mercury Entertainment suddenly pressured us to increase Qiao Jingshu’s screen time. Isn’t that ridiculous? She’s already the undisputed female lead. Add more, and what kind of movie will this become?”
“But Director Jian had to bow to the investors, so he swallowed his pride. He stayed up all night revising the script with the screenwriter, and we continued filming. We’d already finished quite a bit whenāguess what? Qiao Jingshu suddenly claimed she’s afraid of cats and insisted on cutting one of the newly revised scenes.”
“Afraid of cats, my ass. She had no problem pretending to be a cat lover on Flow. She’s just making trouble, that bitch.”
Unlike Qiao Jingshu and the others, Yuan Duan had entered the industry through unconventional means. She was straightforward by nature and had been heavily criticized in her early years, but her talent and acting skills were simply too outstanding. She carved her own path among the Mercury-affiliated artists.
It wasn’t until Mercury recognized her value and invested in her studio that the relationship improved somewhat.
But because of those early experiences, Yuan Duan had never had a good opinion of the so-called “proper” Mercury artists led by Qiao Jingshu.
The moment Shen Yunmiao heard this, she knew she was still the root of the problem. A deep wave of exhaustion washed over her.
She had never wanted to cause so much trouble.
She only wanted to live her own quiet life.
That was all.
Why were there always so many troubles in this world?
Shen Yunmiao had always known she wasn’t a lucky person. Everything she wanted was forever out of reach. No matter how hard she tried, she could never obtain it.
It had always been that way…
Seeing her spirits sink, Yuan Duan patted her shoulder to comfort her.
“It’s fine. Qiao Jingshu’s only a Best Actress winner. No matter how much she stirs things up, there’s a limit. You’ll find out later there are plenty of people who are even worse.”
Shen Yunmiao forced a smile.
“It’s not that. I was just wondering if I’ve caused Director Jian more trouble again.”
“Hey, don’t say that…”
“Yuan Duan, come here!” Jian Shen called, sounding irritated.
Yuan Duan shrugged at Shen Yunmiao before walking over.
Jian Shen spoke loudly enough that Shen Yunmiao could hear clearly even from a distance.
“Doesn’t your family have an odd-eyed cat? Bring it over tomorrow for filming.”
Yuan Duan rolled her eyes.
“What difference does whose cat it is make? Isn’t the real issue the cat itself?”
Jian Shen rubbed the bridge of his nose tiredly.
“I talked things over with Mercury. I transferred that scene to your character instead. That way we won’t have to rewrite too much.”
Yuan Duan: “…”
She stared in disbelief.
“They actually agreed?”
“Of course. We’d already rewritten the script and finished two-thirds of the shoot before they started making trouble again. I told them to either film it or get lost. What the hell could they say?”
Knowing he had already made up his mind, Yuan Duan sighed helplessly.
“It’s not that I don’t want to help. The problem is that my cat’s completely black.”
The script specifically called for a white cat with odd-colored eyes.
Jian Shen had finally managed to find several suitable cats, but Qiao Jingshu kept screaming around them. In the end, only two cats didn’t become stressed, and even their owners no longer dared let them participate.
The little white cat was once again chasing after the surveillance camera, repeatedly swatting at it with her fluffy paws. She looked like she’d become an expert at hunting security cameras.
Unfortunately, she failed to defeat it in one strike, and once it moved away, it became difficult to catch again.
After licking her paw, Little President Cheng decided to rest for a while before trying again. She wasn’t a real cat, after all. Of course she knew what that thing was for.
More importantly, she also knew that through it, Shen Yunmiao could talk to her.
