Chapter : 11
The Rich Young Master’s Ex-Girlfriend (11)
Lu Qi’s voice was melodious and beautiful, carrying a unique husky charm. She sang a very famous English song.
This English song had a lively rhythm that could instantly sweep away one’s fatigue. At the same time, it wasn’t a song that just anyone could sing.
The three mentors listened in rapt fascination, whispering their discussions among themselves. The expressions on their faces clearly showed that they were very satisfied with Lu Qi.
Sure enough, after Lu Qi finished singing, the scores given by the three mentors were: 96, 97, 98.
Averaged out, Lu Qi’s score was actually as high as 97, instantly making her a threat to all the other contestants.
Before Lu Qi, the highest score had been only 94, so no one dared to underestimate her now.
“There’s still contestant number sixty-two, right?” At this point, one of the mentors asked.
Clearly, his tone wasn’t particularly favorable.
Mentor Number Two nodded, leaned in, and whispered, “This one was specially arranged to be here by someone.”
“Quite the backing.”
“We have to make sure she advances. The higher-ups have put in a wordāotherwise, we might as well forget about keeping our jobs here.”
Mentor Number Three looked resigned. “There’s no way around it then. One or two like this every now and then, we can still handle. Hopefully, her singing won’t be too awful.”
The three of them huddled together, discussing what scores to give, when Tang Guo had already taken the stage.
All three mentors were somewhat surprised when they saw Tang Guo.
Her appearance was simply too pure and innocent. The slight curve of her lips and the faint smile she wore made her look like every man’s first love goddess.
Just based on her looks alone, they felt a little better about things. They thought to themselves, even if her singing turned out to be unbearable, they’d just endure itāat least she was pleasant to look at.
“Dear mentors, are you ready? I’m about to start singing.”
A soft, sweet voice rang out, like the sun breaking through after rain, casting a warm glow over everyoneāwarming them down to their very hearts.
The three mentors exchanged glances. Their lines had been stolen! Weren’t they supposed to be the ones asking, “So-and-so, are you ready? If you’re ready, you may begin.”
As mentors, they smiled and nodded, signaling for Tang Guo to start.
They had expected the next few minutes to be a disastrous car crash of a performance. Instead, what pierced their eardrums was a voice from heaven.
“ThisĀ is what a throat kissed by an angel really sounds like, right?” Mentor Number One looked dazed. “Listening to her voice, all my previous fatigue has vanished. I feel a refreshing coolness all over my bodyāso comfortable.”
Mentor Number Two said nothing. He sat with his eyes closed, his face bearing an unguarded expression, as if he had entered a deep sleep. It was clear he was completely immersed in Tang Guo’s world of sound.
Mentor Number Three looked visibly excited. Even before the song was half over, she was already eager to score.
Her hands trembled slightly. “I want to give her full marks.”
The audience below was also very quiet. They had started with some low murmurs, but by the end, no one wanted to make a single sound, as if they couldn’t bear to ruin the auditory feast before them.
“Her voice is so beautiful.”
That came from the discussions among the contestants backstage.
“If I lose to her, I’ll accept it willingly.”
“I was really nervous before, but the moment I heard her sing, I felt calm inside. Her voice seems to dissolve all my tension.”
“I think I’ve fallen in love with her voice. Even though we’re competitors, I just can’t bring myself to dislike her.”
The length of a song was only a few minutes, and it passed quickly.
But after Tang Guo finished singing, the venue remained utterly silent. No one broke that stillness.
A minute later, the three mentors were the first to snap out of it. They looked at Tang Guo with excitement and fervor.
The three exchanged glances and simultaneously raised their score cards.
