Chapter – 04
Main Quest
Obedience Potionâjust from the name, Lynn instantly understood that Rena was trying to control him!
If he were controlled, would he become her puppet? Or cannon fodder?
Surely she wasn’t planning to make him her husband?
Rena’s swift move caught Lynn off guard.
If he didn’t have the skill [Mental Barrier], he would have already fallen victim.
His skill level was too low to resist the potion’s contaminationâno problem, he’d just spend points to upgrade!
Without hesitation, Lynn spent half his points.
**[700 points have been used to upgrade the skill ‘Mental Barrier’.]**
**[Mental Barrier Lv.1 â Mental Barrier Lv.3]**
If that wasn’t enough, he’d dump the remaining 700 points on it too!
There was absolutely no way he was becoming Rena’s puppet or cannon fodder!
**[You have successfully resisted the mental contamination of the ‘Obedience Potion’.]**
Only then did Lynn breathe a slight sigh of relief.
But he was now faced with a new problem:
How was he supposed to deal with Rena?
She definitely thought she had him under her control. When she started giving him orders, what should he do?
Pretend to be controlled?
Or come clean directly?
If he came clean, would she silence him permanently?
After all, she was planning to chop him into mincemeat and feed him to the dogs…
Lynn’s mind was a tangled mess.
**[âEntertainment Over Deathâ wants to see you pretend to be controlled. If the subsequent developments amuse Them, They will tip you 500 points!]**
**[âPure Love Invincibleâ wants to see you come clean directly. They believe lies are the greatest harm to pure love. If you do not confess to Rena, They will strongly condemn youâconsider this fair warning! On the contrary, if you accept Their proposal, 1,000 points will be credited immediately!]**
Even though “Pure Love Invincible” was more generous, Lynn still decided not to come clean for now.
Coming clean was too risky.
If Rena found out he wasn’t controlled, and she chopped him down, what then?
Would “Pure Love Invincible” save him?
Fat chance!
Lynn had already realized that these so-called gods, aside from babbling and tipping points, seemed unable to directly interfere with reality!
Otherwise, with two gods watching over him, why would he fear Galron or Rena?!
The gods were completely unreliable.
One was just looking for entertainment, and the other… probably also looking for entertainmentâafter all, what kind of “pure love” did he and Rena have?
He could only rely on himself.
He could only rely on the skills and points he already had, survive as long as possible, and adapt to whatever came.
After thinking it through, Lynn pretended nothing had happened and placed his empty wine glass on the table.
Rena, standing beside him to attend to him, obediently poured him more wine.
Arger, who was sitting nearby and already drunk, grinned and said:
“Lynn, your wife here might be a bit ugly, but she’s pretty well-behavedâknows how to serve without any training.”
Lynn: “…”
Rena: “…”
Both of them were barely holding it together for their own reasons.
Arger continued: “Unlike the female orc I drewâshe’s nothing more than a breeding tool at best.”
The female orc Arger had drawn had fainted from fear upon realizing she’d fallen into the hands of a goblin, and Arger had ordered his men to carry her back to his cave.
Seeing Arger stare at Rena, Lynn couldn’t help but wonder if the guy was about to propose a trade!
However, Arger changed his tone and said: “Whether you’re satisfied or not, they were bestowed by Lord Galron, so you must take good care of them.”
“Yeah, yeah, right.” Lynn nodded.
They continued eating and drinking for a while longer until the banquet finally ended.
After Galron left the table, the others in the hall gradually departed as well.
Lynn, showing no signs of drunkenness, pretended to be drunk and stumbled his way home with Rena.
Lynn’s home was right next to Arger’s, in the goblin territory.
Arger had recommended Lynn, providing him with food and shelter, though there was also an element of surveillance involved.
Back in the crude wooden hut, the door closed, and Rena immediately dropped the act.
She quickly began testing the effects of the Obedience Potion:
“Kneel!” she commanded.
Lynn: “…”
Pretending to be under the potion’s control, Lynn knelt on one knee.
Rena sat down in front of him, crossed her legs, with her beautiful feet right before Lynn.
In truth, from a human aesthetic standpoint, Rena was undeniably a top-tier beauty.
The young girl furrowed her brows, and the words that came out of her mouth were like sharp blades:
“You despicable human traitorâsiding with the demons, utterly shameless!
And you dared to call me ugly?!
You dared to make me serve you?!
Once I complete my assassination mission, I’ll skin you alive!”
Lynn: “…”
Damn!
After cursing him out a couple of times, Rena felt a bit better.
She didn’t actually do anything to Lynnâshe still needed him. Killing him now would be more loss than gain.
Then she asked:
“What’s your name? Where’s your home?
How did you end up here? Why did Galron make you a leader?”
“My name is Lynn, my home is in…” Lynn paused. He couldn’t exactly say he was from Blue Earth, could he?
Thinking quickly, he recalled a place name Arger had mentioned:
“My home is in the northern border city of the Sidric KingdomâKorn Town.”
Lynn had been captured by Arger’s goblin squad just outside Korn Town.
He truthfully answered that he’d been taken prisoner and, because he could craft and improve bows, Arger had recommended him for the leadership position.
Believing Lynn was under the Obedience Potion’s control, Rena took his words at face value:
“So you were captured from Korn Town…”
Just as Lynn thought Rena might be showing sympathy and perhaps let him off the hook, she gave a cold sneer:
“So what if you were captured?
You didn’t choose to die rather than submit. Instead, you sided with the demonsâthat alone is a death sentence!”
Lynn: “…”
Only then did he fully understand the meaning behind one of Rena’s three core traitsâ”Righteously Twisted”âalongside “Flame Saintess” and “Acting Queen.”
Full of righteous conviction, having risked going undercover to assassinate one of the Four Demon Generals, Rena naturally looked down on a weakling like Lynn who’d sided with the demons.
Rena gazed down at Lynn as if he were garbage. Once she was done using him, she would definitely kill him.
“Now tell me everything about this underground city.”
She commanded again.
Lynn replied briefly: “I don’t know.”
“Huh?!” Rena hesitated.
What the hell are you “huh”-ing about?!… Lynn cursed Rena for being brainless.
He’d just said he’d only been captured by the goblins and brought into the underground city. In such a short time, where was he supposed to get intel on the place?
The fact that Rena even asked that question showed she wasn’t thinking!
As she scrutinized Lynn, Rena noticed the contempt in his eyes. Suddenly realizing something, she shot to her feet.
*Swish!â*
Rena summoned a longsword and swung it down at Lynn’s head.
Terrified, Lynn instinctively dodged to the side.
But Rena hadn’t actually swung to killâshe halted the blade mid-air:
“You bastard…” Rena’s face went pale. “You’re faking it?!
You clearly drank the Obedience Potionâhow is it not working?!”
Lynn was drenched in cold sweat. He never expected that it was just a test from Rena!
Oh no!
He was exposed!
“Damn it, I’ve been found out,” Rena gritted her teeth. “I’ll just have to kill you first!”
Just then, something new appeared:
ïŒMain Quest #1 â Survival in DesperationïŒ
– Category: Main
– Rank: E
– Success Condition: Don’t get killed by Rena. Survive.
– Time Limit: 3 minutes
– Reward: 500 points
– Failure Penalty: Death
A “Main Quest” suddenly popping up startled Lynn again.
But he didn’t have time to overthink itânor did he need to. The quest was easy to understand.
Survive three minutes without being killed by Rena. Either kill her first, persuade her, beg for mercy… however he did it, as long as he lived, he’d complete the quest.
If he failed, even if the penalty wasn’t “death,” Rena would kill him to silence him anywayâdeath was inevitable either way.
[âEntertainment Over Deathâ is extremely displeased that you got exposed after just a single test from Rena. They will not tip you 500 points.]
[âPure Love Invincibleâ is extremely displeased that you pretended to be controlled and deceived Renaâthis is anything but pure love! They support Rena chopping you down.]
Lynn: “…”
What the f*ck!
